Somebody spent a winter learning to swim out of a book
and could name four strokes, two breathing patterns, and the common error in each.
At the pool in April they got in at the shallow end,
did twenty metres of something that was on none of the lists,
and were more tired than any chapter had given them cause to expect.
The book was correct throughout. It has since been reprinted.
It had only been written for somebody who was already wet.
